Your New Role… The Vice President is the top editorial and people leader for CNN’s East Region, which comprises correspondents, reporters, producers and operations from New York to Florida. The ideal candidate is an innovative editorial and creative leader, who will lead teams through new modes of storytelling and new levels of distinctive reporting. First and foremost an editorial leader, you will identify, shape, and execute editorial priorities from the regions. You will ensure those teams are consistently creating innovative content for multiple, ever-evolving platforms. Ensure that all team members are consistently supporting CNN’s goal of owning both breaking news and distinctive daily content for broad audiences. Actively promote seamless flow with other parts of the organization, to ensure editorial consistency proper story tone and direction, and the upholding of CNN’s Standards. This position reports to the SVP/National news. Role Accountabilities... Editorial Management Identify emerging stories from the region and own them from launch to follow-up. This includes both breaking news and unique storytelling opportunities. Ensure wider CNN operation is pointed at the right editorial priorities, and that those priorities are communicated and framed clearly to internal/external audiences. Responsible for complex editorial decisions and judgment calls, ensuring content meets CNN editorial and legal standards. Ensures sensitive content and sourcing are handled properly. Keep all bureau team members highly engaged in daily editorial efforts and hold all accountable for generating new reporting to keep stories moving forward. Sets reporting goals on key stories and creatively uses all resources across team to achieve them. Content Generation, Development and Oversight Lead, evolve and innovate original reporting from correspondents, reporters and producers across the region. Drive distinctive storytelling from a broader scope of the country, more often. Overall responsibility for both day-to-day coverage and enterprise reporting assignments. Set goals and create systems to support elevated content creation and manage team performance against those goals. Ensures proper assignment of story pursuits and stories themselves, and ensures stories meet editorial and audience objectives. General Management of Teams & Bureaus Broad responsibility for talent development, training, team well-being and key operational decisions affecting CNN’s bureaus and satellite operations in the region Oversee a team of managers to ensure that operational, logistical, budgetary and people management decisions align with key editorial priorities and CNN content strategy Coach, manage, evaluate, recruit and develop field and bureau teams, including reporters, producers and managers Ensure bureau teams are supporting and resourcing other CNN efforts beyond national news Multiplatform Audience Needs Identify and shape stories with cross-platform appeal, and ensure editorial is coordinate with and landing on all platforms per network strategy. Strong command of audience metrics and programming needs to ensure daily editorial strategy aligns with platform and audience needs Other Management Duties as assigned by SVP Represent national newsgathering in process improvement projects, editorial calls, management meetings as needed and more. Base pay is just one component of Warner Bros. Discovery’s total compensation package for employees. Pay Range: $162,890.00 - $302,510.00 salary per year. Other rewards may include annual bonuses, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards. In addition, Warner Bros.
