What impact you will have:

Submer is seeking an experienced and highly hands on Vice President, Infrastructure & Networking to lead the architecture, deployment, operational strategy, and scaling of networking and infrastructure platforms supporting next-generation AI, hyperscale, cloud, and modular data center environments.

This is not a traditional corporate IT leadership role. We are looking for a builder with deep technical expertise who has operated in high-performance infrastructure environments and is comfortable working directly with customers, engineering teams, deployment teams, and vendors to build scalable, resilient, and high-density infrastructure platforms.

The ideal candidate will bring strong experience across enterprise and hyperscale networking environments with deep expertise in technologies and platforms.

This individual will play a critical leadership role in designing and scaling high-performance networking infrastructure supporting AI compute environments, liquid cooling deployments, modular data center platforms, and mission-critical infrastructure globally.

The successful candidate will combine executive leadership capability with deep technical and operational engagement, someone equally comfortable in customer discussions, architecture reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and infrastructure deployment environments.

What you'll do:

Infrastructure & Networking Leadership

  • Develop and execute the infrastructure and networking strategy supporting hyperscale, AI, cloud, and modular infrastructure deployments.
  • Lead the design and standardization of scalable, high-performance networking architectures across global deployments.
  • Establish infrastructure standards, operational procedures, resiliency models, and deployment frameworks.
  • Partner closely with Engineering, Product, Manufacturing, and Project Delivery teams to support scalable infrastructure deployment.
  • Build operational processes and technical governance models that support rapid growth while maintaining agility and reliability.
  • Serve as a senior technical leader supporting customer engagements, architecture discussions, and strategic infrastructure initiatives.

Network Architecture & Engineering

  • Lead architecture and deployment of enterprise and hyperscale networking environments leveraging technologies.
  • Design high-bandwidth, low-latency network architectures supporting AI workloads, GPU clusters, storage systems, and mission-critical applications.
  • Support Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, EVPN/VXLAN, spine-leaf architectures, BGP, routing protocols, and large-scale switching environments.
  • Drive network resiliency, redundancy, scalability, and operational performance standards.
  • Partner with infrastructure and compute teams to support integrated AI infrastructure solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and define future-state networking architectures aligned with business growth.

Infrastructure Deployment & Operations

  • Lead infrastructure deployment activities across modular data center and mission-critical infrastructure environments.
  • Support commissioning, testing, validation, and operational readiness processes.
  • Establish operational standards for infrastructure lifecycle management, monitoring, reliability, and supportability.
  • Partner with field operations and project delivery teams to resolve infrastructure and deployment challenges.
  • Support customer escalations and critical operational troubleshooting activities when required.

Vendor & Technology Management

  • Build strategic relationships with networking, compute, storage, and infrastructure vendors.
  • Lead technical evaluations, vendor selection processes, and infrastructure standardization initiatives.
  • Support procurement and supply chain teams on infrastructure planning, forecasting, and vendor alignment.
  • Stay closely aligned with emerging trends across AI infrastructure, networking technologies, and hyperscale architectures.

Team Building & Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing infrastructure and networking organization aligned with the growth of the business.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop infrastructure architects, network engineers, deployment engineers, and operational teams globally.
  • Foster a practical, execution-oriented engineering culture focused on operational excellence and customer success.
  • Balance executive leadership responsibilities with hands-on technical involvement and operational engagement.
  • Lead by example through direct involvement in architecture reviews, troubleshooting, deployments, and customer discussions.

Commercial & Customer Engagement

  • Support customer solution design, technical workshops, and infrastructure strategy discussions.
  • Partner with Business Development and Solutions Engineering teams during customer pursuits and technical evaluations.
  • Help position the company as a leader in next-generation AI and modular infrastructure technologies.
  • Translate customer requirements into scalable infrastructure solutions aligned with operational and commercial objectives.

What you'll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical discipline.
  • 12+ years of progressive experience in networking, infrastructure engineering, data center infrastructure, or hyperscale environments.
  • Deep expertise with enterprise and hyperscale networking platforms.
  • Strong experience designing and operating large-scale network architectures and mission-critical infrastructure environments.
  • Experience supporting AI infrastructure, GPU networking, cloud infrastructure, hyperscale, colocation, or high-density compute environments.
  • Strong understanding of routing, switching, spine-leaf architectures, EVPN/VXLAN, BGP, network security, and infrastructure resiliency.
  • Experience operating successfully within fast-paced, high-growth, entrepreneurial businesses.
  • Executive-level leadership capability combined with a highly hands-on technical and operational approach.
  • Strong builder mentality with the ability to create scalable infrastructure organizations, systems, and processes from the ground up.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting modular data center infrastructure, AI infrastructure, liquid cooling technologies, or edge infrastructure environments.
  • Familiarity with GPU networking environments and AI workload optimization.
  • Experience supporting hyperscale or cloud infrastructure providers.
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure automation, observability, and operational tooling.
  • Relevant technical certifications such as CCIE, JNCIE, Arista ACE, or equivalent advanced networking credentials.
  • Based in Houston, Texas, or able to maintain a regular presence in Houston.
